For all those concerned for his safety this should not make things any more dangerous before. Excommunication only matters to people who care about their afterlife. Anyone who cares about their afterlife and is concerned about the effects of excommunication would not dare try to harm a pope.

We will see if he's legit or not. His bank has been just as corrupt as the various mafias over the last century, but he did just sack the entire board. He doesn't have much room to talk, though, as the mafias have a long way to go before they catch up to the Vatican in the killing/money laundering/rape department. #history
